University of the Month – Saginaw Valley State University

Saginaw Valley State University

Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) is a comprehensive baccalaureate and master’s degree-granting university that offers 90 programs of study for more than 10,000 students on its attractive, suburban campus in Michigan’s Great Lakes Bay Region.  With more than 41,000 alumni, SVSU is committed to quality teaching in the classroom, field-based learning experiences, NCAA Division II athletics and a broad range of academic and extracurricular opportunities to help students excel.

SVSU’s distinctive qualities include:

Convenient, Safe Location—SVSU’s main campus is centrally located within the state of Michigan and the Great Lakes Bay Region of Saginaw, Bay City and Midland. The MBS International Airport is only ten minutes from campus and Detroit is two hours by car. Our campus and surrounding area are extremely safe.

Affordable—SVSU offers one of the lowest tuition rates of all public universities in Michigan and many Mid-Western states. There are scholarships available specifically for international students.

Global Campus—SVSU currently has over 630 international students on campus from over 22 countries.

Credentialed Faculty—The majority of SVSU faculty hold a Ph.D. and many bring both academic credentials and professional experience to the classroom.

Small Classes—The undergraduate average class size is 24 and the graduate average class size is 16 students.

Breathtaking Campus—SVSU’s campus is modern, compact and state-of-the-art. The Health & Human Services building constructed in 2010 provides high-tech classrooms and laboratories for students in disciplines such as nursing, occupational therapy, exercise science, athletic training and social work. More than 70 percent of the SVSU campus has been constructed in the last 15 years. Unlike campuses in urban centers, parking is ample and free.

Vibrant University Culture—SVSU has over 10,000 students, including more than 600 international students from 34 countries. We provide a rich campus culture with concerts, guest lectures, theatrical performances and many athletic programs.
