University of the Month – University of Central Lancashire (UK)
The University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) is one of the largest universities in the UK, located in Preston, Lancashire, North West of England. Ideally placed for national and international travel, UCLan is in close proximity to Manchester (under 1 hour by train/car) and London (1 hours by train).
Offering a warm and welcoming atmosphere to students over a 100 different nationalities, UCLan was founded in 1828 as the Institution for the Diffusion of Knowledge, gaining university status in 1992. UCLan was the first modern university to be included in the QS World Rankings and recently gained QS Stars Development Road Map 5 stars achievement for internationalisation and quality of teaching provision. With a dynamic portfolio of courses, UCLan focusses on employability and placement opportunities for students. UCLan in proud of its position in the Times Higher Education (THE) annual Student Experience Survey 2013, in which UCLan was placed third in the North West, in the top ten in the UK for good library and library opening hours and 5th in the UK and top in the North West for good personal relationships with teaching staff. Also in the 2013 National Students Survey, 100% of forensic computing students said that overall they were satisfied with their course and UCLan was ranked in the top 10 of similar courses in the UK for, amongst others, Mechanical, Production and Manufacturing Engineering Public Relations, General Engineering and Marketing, with Computer Science, Electronic and Electrical Engineering and Management Studies just outside the top 10 and Accounting in the top 20. The Guardian newspaper’s University Guide 2013 ranked UCLan in the top ten for Engineering (General).
