GAC makes a significant impact at Sekolah Tunas Muda in Jakarta

27 February 2008

Seven months after initiating change at his school, Director of Studies at Sekolah Tunas Muda, Mr Nigel Robson, has already seen the changes in his students.

"I honestly believe that the GAC has made an incredible difference to the students' performance this year, both intellectually and in terms of their attitude," said Mr Robson. "Two years ago they did not have the confidence to speak in English. Two years ago they were a group of students without a purpose, failing the national school system. There has been a significant shift in their self-confidence."

Ros Washington, the ACT Regional Academic Manager responsible for the schools in Indonesia, believes that this positive change is a result not only of the GAC but also of the fine efforts of the teachers at Sekolah Tunas Muda. "All education programs succeed on the efforts of quality teachers and quality teaching," remarked Ms Washington, "and the GAC is no exception to this. The teachers, leaders, parents and students all play extremely important roles at schools, and when they work together, the results are extremely pleasing."

According to Mr Robson, the GAC is preparing his students for success at university. "The teachers have done a great job, but it's the nature of the GAC that drives the students to develop the necessary skills and understanding. Six months ago I doubted their capacity to be successful university students. Today, I believe that our GAC students are amongst the academic leaders in our school."
