The International Career Readiness Certificate (ICRC) addresses the need for international portability of workplace skills credentials by utilizing the identical practices and principals of the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC). The ICRC is available in English and Spanish, and the potential exists for the ICRC to be issued in the languages of other countries where sufficient interest exists.
Introduced in 2006, the National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) is widely used across the U.S. by employers, educational institutions, workforce training entities, state and local government agencies, and others, with hundreds of thousands of individuals already qualifying for Certificates.
The National—and now the International—Career Readiness Certificates are systems for certifying that individuals possess the foundational skills necessary for success in most jobs. Both are based on ACT's WorkKeys® job skills assessment system, which measures the foundational skills necessary for virtually every occupation in today's workplace. During the past two decades, WorkKeys has been used by more than 2,500 organizations for employee hiring and development. Companies using the WorkKeys system have seen reduced turnover among employees and improved productivity and training efficiency. To date, more than 16,000 unique jobs have been profiled for their WorkKeys skills and currently reside in our job database. Many of these existing job profiles can be used anywhere in the world.
The following pages provide information on the International Career Readiness Certificate as it applies to employers, economic developers, educators, and job seekers. Entities interested in sponsoring an ICRC in their country or region should contact us to learn more about it.
